The Battle Hymn of Forkbeard
to the tune of Battle Hymn of the Republic
Mine eyes have seen the gory bits that the axes leave behind,
There are brains and spleens and limbs galore for you and me to find.
They were put there by our Viking Lord as Dane Geld, paid in kind!
For Sven is marching on.
Glory, glory mutilation
Glory, glory mutilation
Glory, glory mutilation
For Sven is marching on
He has loosed hit fatal dragon prows from Scandinavias shore.
He's demanding Saxon silver more and more and more.
And if they won't pay up he'll let us wade through tons of gore
For Sven is marching on.
Glory, glory mutilation
Glory, glory mutilation
Glory, glory mutilation
For Sven is marching on
He's burning burghs and villages and taking Saxon slaves.
They think he is the devil and try to hide in caves.
Some day his son will even try to turn back all the waves
For Sven is marching on.
Glory, glory mutilation
Glory, glory mutilation
Glory, glory mutilation
For Sven is marching on
Sven is now acclaimed as King, over there and over here.
The people they will love him and will hold him very dear.
And if rebellion lurks inside, he'll slice them ear to ear
For Sven is marching on
Glory, glory mutilation
Glory, glory mutilation
Glory, glory mutilation
For Sven is marching on

Feast Night, May 15, 2011
I arrived `fashionably late` to find the side room tables already set up for Morglyn`s lost wax casting project. I was not able to attend previous meetings where the projects were just beginning, but I can tell you that to this point we have many exceptional carvers in our midst! Morglyn will cast the wax objects at his own pleasure in the next short while, and there are many in our shire that will sport unique treasures very proudly!
Even certain members of our Rapiers managed to squeeze in time away for their fervent practice to work on their pieces of art!
Also up for inspection and claiming were 11 of Hrafn`s game board sets that were cut by Morglyn and Ulfrekker. (The game will not be named at the moment.) They were taken in hand to be personally embellished by some citizens of the shire. More dice for these game boards will be produced by Morglyn from exotic wood that will be provided by Ulfrekker at the next practice. I was wondering about the dice...
Ismerelda was very kind and generous to accommodate me by bringing with her some of her collection of blackwork articles and patterns. This will be a leisure project that we will work on while our warriors sweat away at practice for the next few weeks :-)
Hengest expressed an interest in one of Ismerelda`s patterns for his cloak edge. A forest tree line. I`m excited to see it come to working, it will be quite a lovely piece of stitching! Morglyn choose a blackwork pattern that he will try to work out into a weaving.
I presented my finished `nine-man-morris` portable game board, and it was well received. As well, the collection of blackwork patterns, and particularly the coif patterns developed from Scholehouse and V&A images were shown much interest.
Paddy and Maddy Fernow were missed at the main meal, but were happily received for the dessert course, since THEY brought it! Yay! And it certainly was a pleasure to be able to spend some time with them.
Two birthdays were celebrated at this feast, Christov at a tender 23, and Sigrunn (that`s ME!!!!!) at a not nearly so tender 49 :-) Genevieve provided a wonderful cake and we were serenaded by the entire group :-)
We were seated very nearly to the prescribed hour of 6pm, nearly. And though the company was small, the feast would have pleased many more... There was enough time after dinner to enjoy leisurely discussions (one being the desire for more banners for events and displays) and enough time to play some rounds of "the game that shall not yet be named".
And I made it home just minutes after 9! Unheard of!
Well done Krakafjord! Well done.

Faux Metal Gem Settings - AKA Stitched Gems

Ok, so you are not a goldsmith, nor do you know any goldsmiths, nor could you afford them if you knew them... But, you CAN have 'gems' applied to your garb! If you are or know an embroiderer.
Here is an example of a stitched 'gem' http://history.westkingdom.org/AandS/Embroidery/GemStitching.htm
Another example is here http://wkneedle.bayrose.org/member/member_metal.html

A class sheet does exist for this technique, but I don't have permission to share it, so I'm working on my version of this method of embroidery using metalic floss.
